God really does connect all the dots. He knew all the worries and doubts that I was going to have throughout training camp, even before I did.

One morning we had gotten up extra early to do a prayer walk. We followed a trail into the woods and stopped in a clearing where our awesome activity leaders had us partner up with someone to pray for a worry or a bad feeling that we had.

When I found a partner, the only worry that came to mind was burning out. I had never spent so much time around so many zealous, like-minded Christian’s my age. Having morning devotionals, 2 sessions a day, worship, 3 meals, and 3 separate squad times… appeared daunting.

I was so worried that I would get tired of sitting in sermons. I would get tired of morning devotionals. And that I’d get to hear about God so much so that I would catch fire for a day or two, and then burn out or lose my passion and ultimately forget my purpose in being here.

Before we launched, we were sent an email asking if we wanted to buy a prophetic key. It’s a key that was prayed for and they would put a word on it that is specific to the racer. (I love things like that so I got myself one!!)

We got them the day after that prayer walk. Some of the keys say His, Held, Mighty, Power, Bold, etc. Does anyone want to guess what mine said? Well in case I haven’t made mine obvious enough… my key says burn

I’m not going to burn out. In fact every time that I step into a session or a worship session or in my team circle, I feel refreshed and rejuvenated. We had a Night of Prayer the other night, and I was planning on staying up until 4am and then catching a nap before the day started. But I didn’t get tired at all throughout the night. Even going into the next day, while I was falling asleep trying to write my morning thoughts down, as soon as I stepped into worship that morning, I was instantaneously energized. I made it throughout the entire day with only 1 energy drink and zero naps.

I think I’ve only had the key for 3 nights and I’m already so encouraged. I’m not scared of burning out on this journey. Physically or spiritually. I look forward to discovering more about what the word means to me. I am going to burn. I am going to be on fire for God. I am going to initiate a spark that sets others to burn too.

  1. Alyssa!
I am excited for you to learn more about how you can and will continue to burn for Him.
We many times burn out because our focus and energy are in the wrong place. However, when you are focused on Him and your personal relationship with him. The desire to burn will grow deeper!
I love you my beautiful daughter! I know who you are and I know God will use you… others around you and those you touch in the field will all catch fire! That is my prayer for you and all you fellow racers!
    God bless you!

  2. Alyssa,
I loved hearing about your key and the meaning behind it. It fits you so well! God is so good and he knows you so well. It’s amazing how the Lord burns for us as well. Keep pushing in and seek His face as He walks with you always! I love you~Dad
